Community Science Academy
The Community Science Academy, is a professional learning community and science teaching center promoting research in areas relevant to community needs, e.g. agriculture, environment, urban planning, etc. Toward this end, we work with schools and universities to teach core science and engineering skills, and to guide students and other citizens in relevant research. We collaborate with Caltech researchers to translate their work into educational opportunities and experiences.
We develop custom instrumentation, assays, software, and curriculum; perform outreach, teacher training, and professional development; work on community science and educational research projects; and teach at all levels.
Community Science Academy applicants are typically rising 9th-12th graders, although younger applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis. A limited number of scholarships are available for qualifying applicants.Program Contact Information: Mitch Aiken, Caltech CTLO, or (626) 395-4641. Community Science Academy International
In partnership with IEG Global Corporation, we are delivering a two-week intensive international version of our Community Science Academy here on the Caltech Campus. International students selected by IEG will spend two weeks at Caltech learning core science and engineering concepts and research skills from university researchers. Students will gain hands-on experience utilizing DIY instrumentation and collaborative software to perform experiments and build projects in areas relevant to community needs, including agriculture, environment, and urban planning.
